GP Obstetric Shared Care (SA) Program Accreditation
Initial Accreditation
To become an accredited Obstetric Shared Care GP in South Australia a GP must submit an application to the GP OSC SA Program. Application form is available here. The application process requires the GP to:
- Demonstrate adequate knowledge and skill in obstetric care, such as 3-6 months experience within the last 5 years in obstetrics with an accredited hospital; OR
- Complete a supervised clinical attachment at an antenatal clinic (this can be arranged under the GP OSC Program); OR
- Hold DRANZCOG
AND
- Attend a full one day GP OSC Accreditation seminar as a RACGP Category 1 event
Maintaining Accreditation
The GP OSC (SA) Program operates in line with the RACGP & ACRRM trienniums for GP vocational registration. Within each triennium GP OSC (SA) Accredited GPs are required to obtain 12 Obstetric Shared Care points. These points will be recorded on the OSC Registry managed by GPpA.
2011 – 2013 Triennium - 12 OSC points can be gained by:
- Attending 3 x 2 hour OSC CPD events (4 points from each event)
- Attending a one day OSC seminar (12 points from this one day event)
- Other CPD events may be considered for OSC points by submitting a copy of the program to the OSC Program for consideration
Quality Assurance
OSC accredited GPs must also demonstrate their continued commitment to and implementation of the GP OSC (SA) Protocols. The GP OSC (SA) Protocols are available here. The program will monitor the implementation of the protocols and any issues identified will be addressed directly with the GP concerned. Repeated or serious incidents will be referred to the Programs Clinical Governance Committee for action.
